The daughter of a Cambodian father and a Vietnamese mother, Limkhim Katy was born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1978 and graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts University in 2001. Although she is still a very young artist, her paintings show a strongly individual style and approach.
Katy paints village houses and striking landscape paintings featuring forests and their reflections in water. Her landscapes display a love of colour and of paint - Katy applies oil paint boldly with brushes and palette knives to build up a rich texture on the canvas. Katy depicts the forests in vibrant colours, highlighting the tracery of the trees in the foreground against deep shadows of the forest, and conveying beautifully the reflections of the branches in the water. The result is an alluring, otherworldly quality.
